PRESS RELEASE: Professor Of Plastic Surgery And Over 30 Years In The Industry Urges Patients and Plastic Surgeons In The UK To Follow the US Counterparts Lead By Recalling Patients Who May Be Affected By Implants That May Lead To Treatable Cancer

In support of the findings from the FDA published on the front page of The New York Times (May 13-14 2017), Professor John Celin, who runs a clinic off London’s Harley Street is calling on fellow surgeons in the UK to reach out to patients who may be affected by the Lymphoma

 male breast reduction

“It’s going to take some time but I am contacting each of my implant patients from over the years and suggesting they get their breasts professionally checked. If detected early the cancer is often curable. It is our duty of care to ensure patients are notified of any risks and are given the same level of care following a procedure as they are before. There are too many ‘cosmetic surgeons’ with minimal qualifications and little in the way of professional integrity or pastoral care who will not be taking any action on hearing this report and that’s incredibly depressing”. Comments Celin.

Everyone should regularly check their breasts for lumps, unusual marks, swelling or pain anyway but my suggestion would be that those with implants should contact their surgeon for an additional thorough check over.

The US Food and Drug Administration have received numerous of implant associated Lymphoma, however to date very few patients have been informed of this latest report and with 1.4 million implant patients in 2015 it’s important to raise the profile of this risk.

Professor Celin is due to travel to the US to lecture on the latest findings from the FDA.

If you are at all concerned about implants or any symptoms related to cosmetic or plastic surgery Professor Celin would always recommended medical evaluation.

  • Most cancer develops 2-20 years after surgery with a median of 8 years.
  • The vast majority of detected cancer tends to be in those patients with texture impants and silicone doesn’t seem to make any difference – despite some mis-leading press reports.
  • The cancer has not been directly attributed to the implants and no implants have been recalled
  • There are 10 million people with implants in the world.

Dr Celin has been practicing since 1982 and is well respected in the medical profession as well as by his existing and past patients.

Dr Celin has always been polite, gentle and an incredibly calming gentleman despite my needle phobia. I’ve used Dr Celin for 3 different procedures, all with outstanding results. I couldn’t be happier with his work.

Private Patient

I and two female friends in London had upper and lower eye lifts (blepharoplasty)  over the last ten years. The results were excellent, and subtle, friends said ‘you look younger, good, etc. The pre and post op treatment and care were excellent, and I would highly recommend him. He also does excellent botox and filler treatments.   I have always found him incredibly courteous and pleasant.

Dr John Celin MD has been my cosmetic surgeon for many years. I have had a face lift, upper lip laser, chin implant and botox from him. He is fair with his prices, curteous and professional at all times. He puts you at ease and gently talks you through the whole procedure. I would recommend him to anyone (especially the nervous). I am about to see him again after a break of a few years.
